UGHELLI- A group, Urhobo Security Network, USN, has called on the traditional rulers in Urhobo nation, Urhobo Progress Union, UPU and other critical stakeholders to urgently intervene into the crisis brewing Evwreni community in Ughelli North local government Area of Delta state which has led to several death and injuries.
USN in a statement made available to journalists in Ughelli decried the raging communal clashes rocking the Kingdom, with a strong appeal to the warring factions in the hostilities to sheathe their swords and embrace peace.
The group in the statement condemned the internal crisis rocking Evwreni, saying that the external aggressions against Urhobo especially the likes posed by the Fulani Herdsmen that are terrorizing all parts of Urhobo were already enough causes of worry, which should not be muddled up by internal hostilities against one another.
According to the group, “Urhobo Kings and the UPU that are saddled with the responsibility of complementing the conventional security agencies in protecting lives and property in the entire Nation of Urhobo and they should take the bull by the horn to initiate and midwife a process that would bring lasting solution and genuine peace borne out of amicable resolution of the vexatious issues brewing crisis in the troubled Urhobo kingdom.
The National Coordinator of USN, Comr. Itolldem Daghware said, “It has come to a time where all hands need to be on deck to ensuring that peace is restored in Evwreni, as the crisis is gradually escalating beyond a manageable measure if urgent steps are not taken to stem the violent tide that has engulfed the community.
“It is disheartening to see that what began as an internal disagreement few months ago is already assuming a disturbing dimension that has defied several peace efforts so far to a sad situation where death and injuries have been recorded.
“We the members of Urhobo Security Network has set up machineries in motion to reach out to all parties in the crisis in Evwreni Kingdom, the Ukoko r’Ivie r’Urhobo, the leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU including all notable personalities and groups to join forces in curtailing the Evwreni situation and forestalling possible escalation beyond the present situation.
“We also use this medium to convey our heartfelt sympathy to the families of victims and casualties in the crisis so far, just as we strongly appeal against reprisal attacks in order for the peace and reconciliation moves of the group not to hit the brick wall because we are saddled with the responsibility of fathoming ways of dealing with the security challenges facing the Urhobo nation and would not sit down and fold hands to watch the unfortunate and avoidable break down of peace in any part of Urhobo.”
